Longing for the green shoots of Spring

As we look forward to Spring 2010 during these long cold months of winter, several of our retail stockists  are featuring ranges of RFL linens in our pale green MINT shade for their forthcoming Spring season. Pictured above are (from left to right) our designs Bussaco, Montacute (matelasse cushions), Princess Grace, Sissinghurst, Baroque (towels), Swiss Ajour and Damask Stripe (pillowcases) all in mint green shading. To view or enquire about our co-ordinating coloured collections, please call your local agent or representative or email us on sales@reedfamilylinen.com

Paint the town blue !

Any of our readers who looked up at the Empire State Building in Manhattan on the early nights of December recently would have noticed that it was bathed in pale blue lights. The reason was to celebrate the 800th birthday of the founding of Cambridge University. As a graduate, Mark Reed and RFL are active supporters of their college endowment fund. Mark’s father, Peter Reed, was also offered a place at Cambridge but could not take this up due to his service in the Royal Marines during World War II.

Hortensia

The Hydrangea motif has always been a well received pattern amongst our range of hand embroidered table linens from Madeira, and we are now launching this new pattern on bed linen. Delicately embroidered with Cornely work, this new Hortensia design is offered in pastel shades on white or ivory base cloth. Please contact us at sales@reedfamilylinen.com for a PdF of the design layout and prices. This design is available in four colourways on white and ivory base cloth.

Anyone for a Gin Sling

Reed Family Linens is proud to continue our association with the iconic Raffles Hotel in Singapore. The hotel use our tried and tested Quality 283 which is a fabric woven from 100% Carded Egyptian cotton in a 180 thread count single yarn construction. This quality was first introduced to the world in 1883 by the second generation of the Reed family. The linen is finished with our classic Two Row Cord stitching and complimented by an embroidered letter R.

Return to Rourke’s Drift

After several years of planning and negotiation, we are delighted to confirm that the first hand embroidery training courses sponsored by Khumbulani and Reed Family Linens will now commence on 18th January 2010 in northern Zululand close to the famous Anglo-Zulu battle sites of Isandlwana and Rourke’s Drift. This first training course will train around 30 embroideresses, and the schedule is to grow this compliment steadily throughout 2010. Proceeds from this workers’ co-operative will be used to promote HIV/Aids awareness programmes in the rural areas around Nkandla which is the home kraal of current South African President, Jacob Zuma.

The Reed family take this opportunity to wish all readers of the eBroadsheet a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year ! As in previous years, we will be spending the holiday season in Africa. We look forward to you joining us in our news for 2010, this will include the opening of our first stand alone Reed Family Linens flagship retail store. We intend to franchise this concept worldwide from 2011 - if you have any interest in learning more about this concept, please contact mreed@reedfamilylinen.com

See you all in 2010 ....
